Himanta Biswa Sarma says he has no ambition to enter national politics for another five years

Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has stated that he has no target of entering national politics for another five years and would prefer to be in state politics for at least five years. While talking to media persons, Sarma, who turned 57 on Sunday, said: “There are many people for the post of prime minister or home ministry, but Assam needs me and that’s why I plan to be in state politics for another five years, after that I don’t know because I will be over 60 and then I will see.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in two different public meetings on January 30, stated that there was no infiltration in the Assam survey in the last decade of the BJP rule in Assam and said that in the next five years, under the leadership of chief minister Himanta Biswa, all infiltrators present here will be identified and expelled from Assam.
Shah said only the ruling BJP can protect Assam from illegal infiltrators and appealed to people to bring the party back to power in the next assembly elections. Once upon a time, the number of illegal infiltrators in Assam was minimal, but now they have reached a population of 64 lakh.

On Sunday, Sarma started the day by meeting people from different walks of life, visited temples and also participated in various government programs.

“On my birthday, I meet people from at least five generations and try to meet those who come to greet me. There is only one plan this year and that is to bring back the BJP for the third consecutive term in Assam. Assam will go to polls this year.”
Sarma said, “It has been almost 25 years since I started politics, I am an MLA and a minister, since then, their children and relatives come and greet me today, I meet all of them. So far, I have received people’s blessings and I am in public life and from this I conclude that whatever I do, I do good for the people.” On normal days, this is five hours. I have not slept more than 2 hours since August last year. This is my hobby, I go out with my daughter in the car.

“I believe we will get more seats this time than in the last assembly polls,” the Prime Minister said.

In the current assembly, BJP has 64 MLAs. Sarma had planned to make his parliamentary debut and contest the Lok Sabha polls from Tezpur in 2019. However, this did not happen for the party, which wanted him to continue in state politics.
