‘History Will Tell Who Traitors Were’, Says Nicolas Maduro’s Son After His Father’s US Capture | World News

Nicolas Maduro Guerra, son of deposed Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, said that history will show who the traitors are after the US military operation that led to the capture of his father and First Lady Cilia Flores. According to the local El-Cooperative newspaper, the duo was transferred to New York for trial.

In a voice message published on social media, Maduro Guerra warned of possible betrayal within the ruling movement and said that history would reveal those responsible.

Pointing to an internal conspiracy within Chavismo, he said, “History will show who the traitors are. History will reveal. We will see.”

Maduro Guerra, a member of parliament from La Guaira state and a member of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), said the party will remain united despite recent developments.

He also called on his supporters to join the popular mobilizations on January 4 and 5 to regroup and strengthen unity around the leadership. He spoke of the need for “political and military coordination” to respond to what he described as “external aggression”.

He said Nicolás Maduro is currently in US custody and stressed that the movement would not allow divisions or loss of morale.

The PSUV leader said the ruling camp remains firm and ready to take action. According to the news of El-Cooperative, he said in the audio recording, “We are good. We are calm. You will see us in the streets with these people. They want to see us weak; we will raise the banners of honor. Does it hurt us? Of course it hurts us. Of course it makes us angry, but they will not be able to do it, damn it! I swear on my life, on my mother and Cilia, they will not be able to do it.”

Meanwhile, Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores remain detained in the United States and are expected to appear in federal court in the Southern District of New York on Monday. They face charges related to alleged “conspiracy to engage in narco terrorism and drug trafficking.”

According to CBS News, US officials confirmed that Maduro and his wife will appear before a federal judge at 12:00 pm (local time) on Monday. This will be their first court appearance since the US operation on Saturday.

Washington described the operation as a “large-scale offensive against Venezuela”; Maduro and Flores were subsequently captured in Caracas in a joint operation involving US intelligence agencies and law enforcement.

Both were taken from their homes and transported to the battleship USS Iwo Jima and then flown to the United States. They arrived in New York on Saturday afternoon to face criminal charges in US courts.
