Ukraine imposes sanctions over Russian missiles, drones

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said that he imposed sanctions on some foreign manufacturers that produce components of Russian unmanned aerial vehicles and missiles used against Ukraine.

“Producing these weapons would be impossible without critical foreign components, which the Russians continue to obtain by circumventing sanctions,” Zelenskiy told X. he said.

“We are also introducing new sanctions against such companies (missile and drone manufacturers as well as parts suppliers). ‌I have signed the relevant decisions.”

According to two decrees issued by the Ukrainian presidency, the targets of the sanctions include several Chinese companies and companies from the former Soviet Union, the United Arab Emirates and Panama.

Despite negotiations to end the four-year war, Russia has sharply increased the scale and number of missile and drone attacks on Ukraine in recent months, focusing its attacks on the energy and logistics sectors.

Zelenskiy said Russia launched more than 2,000 attack aircraft, 1,200 guided aerial bombs and 116 missiles of various types into Ukrainian cities and villages last week.

While strikes against power plants and substations left entire regions without electricity and heating, there were power outages lasting up to 20 hours in the capital Kiev.

Zelenskiy also said he has imposed sanctions on the Russian financial sector and organizations that support the Russian cryptocurrency market and mining activities.
