‘Homebound Is A Meaningful And Deserving Film’

Ishaan Khatter discusses the satisfaction of being a part of the story of how the role of India’s 98th Oscar – the complexity of the role and how a childhood friendship between two boys continues despite the possibilities.

What do you have to get from the house to the Oscars?

I am very excited. Even if I was not a part of this film, I would still be a champion of this issue and a good craft of Neeraj. I think this is a movie that deserves it and I hope we can take it to a bigger stage.

Homebound proves your extraordinary ability, but it takes a long time to come here, right?

I think it took some time to find a filmmaker who has been very relatively, but it really sees me as an actor and gave me a role to channel my talents. He just pushed me in a way that Majidi had before. There is only one Neeraj Ghaywan and I am grateful for being a part of this meaningful, deep deliberate work.

What was your reaction when this complex part of a man who is constantly facing prejudice was offered?

Karan Johar Sir was the first to call me to tell me that he was a very special film with Neryaj. When I read the script, I noticed how relevant and beautiful it was written. I knew Shoaib wasn’t a one -dimensional part and it was the most challenging part I offered in my career.

How much has he contributed to your neryaj performance?

Neryaj is a magician, but a methodic magician. He never escaped from raising bets, he challenged me at every level. He understood the depth of the character and not only rely on the craft, but pushed myself into immersion completely. This was a blessing, and I finally succeeded in what I wanted for a long time.

How was it shooting in places like highways and railway platforms?

Everything was very useful. I always preferred to shoot in the location. It gives a sense of reality open to films and performances. But he was challenging. Only the highway was punishing, why will I leave the imagination of the readers?
