Midhani Gets Nod for Aero Alloy Production

Hyderabad:Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (Midhani) has received permission to start mass production of indigenous alloys developed for advanced aircraft engines used by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in Koraput.

The certificate, issued by the Military Airworthiness and Certification Center (CEMILAC), covers various nickel-based superalloys, titanium alloys and special steels. These materials are designed for performance-critical components in advanced aircraft engines.

So far, Midhani has completed material-level development for almost half of the total alloy systems required for the project. Of these, 80 percent are certified and the rest are in the development stage. Alloys are developed and produced into milled products and forgings.

Last year, Midhani significantly expanded its production capacity by building a new titanium plant, commissioning a 6,000-tonne isothermal forging press and upgrading its vacuum induction melting furnaces to handle larger batches and single-crystal superalloy production.

APVS Prasad, Chief Executive Officer of CEMILAC, urged the company to maintain the pace of indigenization and certification to meet the upcoming testing deadlines under the indigenous aero engine programme.

The certificate was formally handed over to Midhani Chairman and Managing Director SVS Narayana Murty in the presence of Director (Finance) K. Madhubala and senior officials from both the organisations.
