Hormuz Won’t Return to Pre-War Status: Iran Parliament Speaker

Teheran: Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammed Bagher Galibaf said that the Strait of Hormuz will not return to its pre-war operational status, asserting that Iran will manage the strategic waterway within the framework of its own regulations while continuing to comply with international regulations.

According to Iranian state media Press TV, Galibaf made this statement after returning from Switzerland on Monday (local time) following the completion of the first round of technical talks with the USA within the scope of the 14-article memorandum of understanding between the two countries.

Galibaf said, “Everyone should know that the management of the Strait of Hormuz will never return to its pre-war state.” he said. “Of course, international regulations will be followed, but Iran will manage the Strait of Hormuz.”

He also claimed that Iran demonstrated significant negotiating power during the talks in Switzerland and was able to influence the outcome of the discussions.

Ghalibaf claimed that Iran forced US President Donald Trump to revise within an hour a social media post in which he warned Iran not to support regional proxy groups, especially in Lebanon, with a veiled reference to Hezbollah.

Referring to the broader regional situation, the Iranian spokesman said the talks were linked to broader conflicts, including developments in Lebanon, and reiterated Tehran’s long-standing distrust of Washington.

“We never trusted the Americans; we don’t trust them now, and it makes sense to remain mistrustful in the future,” he said.

Ghalibaf also claimed that Iran’s participation in the Swiss talks helped prevent further escalation of regional tensions and addressed issues related to Lebanon’s territorial integrity and ceasefire arrangements.

“If we had not gone to Switzerland to meet with the United States, more bloodshed could have occurred between Muslims and Shiites in Lebanon at any moment,” he said.

Reiterating Iran’s political position, Galibaf called for national unity under the leadership of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei and said that his instructions are final.

“We must remain united under the leadership of Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei and accept that his words and directives are final,” he added.

The Speaker also claimed that the release of frozen Iranian funds and the easing of oil sanctions were among the results of the recent Tehran-Washington talks in Switzerland.

The remarks came after the first round of technical talks between the United States and Iran aimed at ending hostilities in West Asia. Both sides agreed to establish a High Level Committee and prepare a roadmap to reach a final agreement within 60 days.
