Police said, “A major fire broke out at Birch near Romeo Lane in Arpora, North Goa, resulting in 25 deaths, of which 4 were confirmed to be tourists, 14 were staff and 7 are yet to be identified. Six people were injured and are undergoing treatment. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Police and fire brigade investigations are ongoing. Legal action is being initiated.”

Goa fire tragedy: PM Modi expresses condolences

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of each person killed in a fire accident. The injured will be given Rs 50,000 from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF). In a post on Prime Minister Modi expressed deep sorrow over the fire accident in Arpora and described the incident as “deeply regrettable”. Pramod informed Sawant Ji about the situation.

The State Government is providing all possible assistance to those affected.”The fire at the club restaurant was reported around midnight on Sunday and emergency teams rushed to the scene. Authorities worked throughout the night to bring the situation under control while the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Authorities launched a detailed investigation into the cause of the fire. Officials said efforts are continuing to provide medical support to the injured and assistance to the families of the dead. Earlier, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant ordered an investigation into the matter. He also expressed his condolences to the grieving families. “The incident is very unfortunate for a tourism country like Goa. There were people running such businesses illegally and a fire incident occurred… 23 people lost their lives… The government will conduct an investigation into this incident. The investigation will investigate the exact cause of the fire and those responsible will face the harshest sanctions under the law.”
