Horror as massive fire rips through Adelaide Hills restaurant, causing $2m in damage

A massive fire at a popular restaurant in Adelaide has caused more than $2 million in damage.
Flames and smoke were first seen emerging from the windows of The Mustard Seed restaurant on Mount Barker Rd in Hahndorf, 28 km south-east of Adelaide, at around 8.30pm on Tuesday.
It took a dozen fire engines and multiple command vehicles carrying about 70 firefighters to extinguish the fire that completely engulfed the restaurant.
Medical teams and police also came to the scene.
In the images, huge flames can be seen coming out of the building and smoke coming out of the windows as the fire was tried to extinguish.

“There was no one in the area at the time the fire started as the restaurant was closed,” a South Australian Country Fire Association spokesperson told NewsWire.
“Thankfully, fire crews prevented the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings.”

Fire crews remained at the scene for hours to completely extinguish the fire.
While the building was completely destroyed by fire, CFA estimated the cost of its restoration to be more than $2 million.

Online, nearby residents said the smoke was “so thick” that it created fog in parts of the city.
“We live up the road and the response has been incredible,” they wrote. “The smoke was very thick in some places.”
Cause of Fire Crime scene investigation teams and detectives are working to determine the cause of the fire.
