Skeletal remains have been found in a multi-storey car park in a town in England; Police cordoned off the scene and launched an investigation. Remains believed to be human were discovered on Wednesday at The Midway, a former 1960s car park in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Staffordshire Police officers arrived at the construction site at 1.35pm and families noticed a large police presence, including forensic investigators. The building is currently being converted into 111 flats by developers Capital & Centric. Officers were seen on guard duty on Thursday while investigations continued.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: “We were called to reports of skeletal remains at a construction site at The Midway, the former Midway car park in Newcastle-under-Lyme. A crime scene was established while we carried out initial inquiries.”

A spokesperson for Capital & Centric added: “Site work at Karparc has been halted at the basement level and we continue to assist Staffordshire Police with their investigations.

“Work continues as normal at our other three construction sites in Newcastle-under-Lyme.”

Two other regeneration projects currently taking shape are plans at Ryecroft and York Place bringing a total of 330 new homes.

Developers have described the scheme as the first of its kind in the UK.

When the project is completed, there will be a social center with a mini cinema and a gym.

The Midway was described as “dated and outdated” and was replaced by the new Castle Car Park, which opened earlier this year.
