One person died and at least three people were seriously injured in an explosion in a bar in Spain. Firefighters and police rushed to La Posada bar near the bullring in Almeria in the country’s southeast.

Many vehicles in the area were damaged in the explosion, which was suspected to be a gas explosion. The area was closed following the incident, which occurred at 17.20 local time (16.20 BST) on 1 April. A spokesman for the regional government-run emergency response coordination center said: “One person was killed and three injured in two explosions at a cafe in Almeria city center this afternoon.

“The incident occurred at around 17.20 local time in a bar on Calle Alfarerias in the city centre. We received multiple reports of an explosion, possibly caused by gas, which caused a fire in the building and caused part of the facade to collapse.

“Almería Fire Brigade, National Police and local police were among the emergency responders who took action. Emergency services confirmed that there were two explosions, possibly caused by gas, one in the cafe and the other in the adjacent garage.

“One person died and 3 people were injured in the incident. 2 of the injured were taken to Torrecardenas Hospital. One of the injured was seriously injured due to burns, and the other was slightly injured due to smoke inhalation.

“The third affected person was taken to the medical center at the arena, although their condition is unknown.”
