Horror factory explosion leaves 14 dead and 59 injured | World | News

14 people died and more than 59 were injured in a fire at an auto parts factory; More than 500 firefighters were called to fight the fire. South Korean fire departments worked non-stop at the fire scene in the city of Daejeon and recovered the remains of 14 people shortly after 13:00 local time on Friday, March 20.

Local authorities reported that 25 people were seriously injured in the fire at first, but this number increased rapidly as the work at the scene continued. Video and photos of the fire at Anjun Industrial show thick gray smoke rising from the factory and over the city.

Nam Deuk-woo, fire chief of the city’s Daedeok district, said firefighters were not allowed to enter the building due to concerns that the building might collapse, and robots entered instead.

In total, more than 120 pieces of equipment, including aircraft and unmanned water cannons, were used to control the flames.

Nine of the dead are thought to be at a gym in the area, while three more bodies were found near a water tank.

While many of the injured were injured after jumping from the building, others were treated for smoke inhalation.

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung expressed his condolences to the families of the victims after visiting the area earlier today.
