Horror fire erupts at Malaga hotel as blaze spreads through rooms – tourists evacuated | World | News

A fire broke out affecting several rooms of a hotel in a Spanish city beloved by Spanish tourists. As the fire spread, smoke was seen covering the windows of the Ibis Hotel in Malaga.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Monday and firefighters battled the blaze for more than 18 hours. No injuries were reported.
It was understood that the fire broke out in Le Grand Cafe bar on the ground floor of the hotel. According to local reports, Malaga City Council’s Security Department said the fire affected the entire bar area and at least 70 percent of the hotel.
Euro Weekly Head of operations Benito Martínez reportedly said that approximately 600 square meters of space in the cafe was completely burned. Similar damage occurred on the first floor, where the fire load was concentrated, flames and smoke reaching the upper levels.
Hotel staff and emergency crews evacuated and transported guests to other locations, prioritizing elderly visitors, those feeling unwell, and families with young children. The outlet also added that firefighters tried to retrieve essential items such as passports, airline tickets and documents for departing guests wherever possible.
The fire brigade remained at the scene until today (Tuesday, May 26) as the fire reached the roof of the building. The fire department said the fire was “under control” although smoke continued to rise from the building.
Residents in the area were told to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution.
