Horror in Wales as 300 sheep left dead – ‘killed in minutes’ | UK | News

A shocking 272 sheep was almost instantly erased in a freak.

New farmers Kiyan and Tetiana Freedom began to enter sheep farming in the rented lands in April this year. On the morning of Thursday, September 4, the disaster was prone to Kiyan’s flock, while the nearby river witnessed the fluctuation of the water level and quickly swallowed it to the waist height.

With a desperate offer to save his animals, Kiyan dived under water to save the flocked sheep and lambs. “The water was three meters (10FT) in the depth of the floor,” he said.

“We started to save the animals one by one with our naked hands.”

Kiyan, who previously worked as an international criminal and fled Iran because he was afraid of his safety, met and married Tatiana, a refugee from Ukraine in England. The couple built their homes in Gowerton near Swansea. Northwest.

Two years ago, after a diagnosis of lung cancer, Kiyan had to pause his legal career. Taking sheep farm in the rented land was part of the strategy of supporting the couple’s healing.

The duo bought 600 sheep and lambs from local markets and prepared a club with a bait and straw in the village of Pontyates. The rented pastures intersect by the Afon Gwendraeth Fawr River.

Kiyan, on Thursday morning at 10.30, after collecting a sheep feed for his field, he met a terrible ordeal when he was caught in an unexpected flood. “It was raining the night before – heavy rain for three or four hours,” he said.

“But the river was low. Then I hear a high sound like a cough. I saw water coming – it was destroying everything.”

Following the crazy moments: “I didn’t have time to think. Water was coming to my stomach in two minutes. A great flood. Water ran to our fields. I didn’t know why it was coming from anywhere. The neighbors living here have never seen such a thing before.”

Kiyan’s efforts to rescue animals are sad: “I started to dive under the water to save the sheep and lambs. But it was too much – the flood lasted two or three miles.”

With a desperate offer to help, Kiyan reached agricultural organs and emergency services and urgently called 999 to ask for the existence of the fire department.

Help, two friends and local volunteers from Swansea joined the effort and brought a tractor and a JCB excavator to get both drowned and surviving sheep.

Kiyan remembered the violence of Selin alive: “It was very deep.” “The water was too high for the tractor – my neighbor was on the roof. Mitsubishi Shogun went to 4×4 and jumped on the roof. But my car was destroyed.”

Bob Stratford, owner of the land, who rented the fields to Kiyan, claimed that poor river care worsened the effect of heavy rainfall and caused disaster floods.

Met Office released a yellow warning for Yağmur in South Wales on Wednesday evening and then warned for the storm early on Thursday morning.

Mr. Stratford explained tragic events: “River levels increased very quickly and then retreated quickly. I tried to warn Kiyan on Thursday morning, but the water rose so fast.

“Unfortunately, he had entered the river with a fence to stop the reach of the sheep from reaching him. The sheep were driven against fences and I will cause the combined weight collapse.

The efforts of carrying sheep to security continued after 19:00, and then flood waters began to decrease. Then, Kiyan and Tettiana worked without fatigue to look at the surviving animals.

Kiyan shared the brutal reality: “Some of them in bad state” and the heartbreaking loss revealed: “I saved one of the water, but yesterday. Local farmers find more sheep corpses and bring them here. So far there are 272 dead sheep and lambs.

In an objection to help, he said: “I asked the authorities for help, but we get very little. The fire department came at the end of the fire, but now we’re all my own. I don’t know what to do.

“All lamb cake feed went. All straw went. We need it for the winter. All the fencing around the field was destroyed by flood water. Our farm car went.”

Farmers need to regulate legally deceased animals from their territory, because it is forbidden to bury it in place. However, Kiyan said he has no other option.

“We have too many dead bodies,” he shouted. “Knacker people said it would be £ 20 per head. When I told them what happened. ‘Okay, 15 £’. But this will still be £ 4,000 to £ 5,000. We also need medicines for sheep. Where do we get the money for this? I have no idea.”

On Saturday, two local farmers, Wales, Texel and Easycare races, a mixture of the disposal of all carcasses to help to collect.

“We were very happy to see them,” Kiyan confessed. “But we still need advice and help for such a situation.”
