Hospital Reception Set on Fire Over Patient’s Death
Bhadradri Kothagudem: There was tension at a private hospital in Bhadradri Kothagudem district after family members and relatives of a deceased patient allegedly set fire to the reception area of the hospital, accusing the staff of medical negligence.
According to information, the deceased has been identified as Venkataramana (36) of Sarpanch tribe from Dantelaboru village in Palvoncha mandal. He fell ill a few days ago and was taken to a private hospital. However, he died while receiving treatment.
Relatives staged a protest demanding justice, claiming that the patient died due to the negligence of hospital staff. The police, who came to the scene upon the notice of the hospital management, took the fire under control in a short time and prevented a major accident.
Venkataramana’s husband alleged that doctors administered an overdose of medication, leading to his death. He also claimed that the hospital staff shifted him to a hospital in Khammam only after his condition worsened.
Family members of the deceased alleged that the hospital doctors did not give a clear explanation for his death and acted negligently. Angered by the alleged lack of response from the hospital management, family members protested at the facility, and one of the relatives allegedly tried to set fire to the reception counter.
The police immediately intervened, extinguished the flames and brought the situation under control. A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
