House Democrats are steering clear of questions about whether former Vice President Kamala Harris will run for president again in 2028.
“I have no idea,” Rep. Jim Clyburn, D-S.C., a former House majority incumbent, told Fox News Digital.
“I have no idea who’s running, and after 2026, we’ll focus on 2028,” replied Dan Goldman, D-N.Y., referring to the November midterms.
While there has been ample time for the list of presidential candidates to be finalized, the responses hint at the party’s uncertainty about whether Harris is the strongest figure to represent the party in 2028 and underline MPs’ reluctance to predict what their party will look like two years from now.

“I won’t comment until we know if that’s actually the case,” said Rep. Judy Chu of California.
Democrats suffered a landslide defeat in 2024, losing the popular vote across the country as Republicans stormed to triumvirate in the White House, Senate and House of Representatives.
Harris, who failed to outperform former President Joe Biden’s 2020 election performance in any county across the United States, raised eyebrows when she passed up the opportunity to run for governor of California, making room for him for another shot at the White House.
“In recent months, I have seriously considered asking the people of California for the privilege of serving as Governor,” Harris said. In a statement posted on Instagram last July.
“I love this state, its people and its promise. This is my home. However, after careful consideration, I have decided not to run for Governor in this election.”
But even if Harris decides to throw her name in the ring, she likely won’t be the only candidate with a national profile looking to reverse Democratic fortunes in 2028.

In addition to Harris, California Governor Gavin Newsom, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer also stand out as potential presidential candidates, and each of them has made a name for themselves by opposing President Donald Trump.
Rep. John Larson, D-Conn., believes Democrats will have a chance in the election; And not just among governors.
“I think it was her decision,” Larson said of Harris. “But I believe the Democratic primary should be completely open, and I think there will be a lot of candidates — governors, senators. But I also think people outside of government will be interested in running.”
“This will be a wholesome experience and everyone interested should run,” Larson added.
Larson didn’t list any specific names she would support or expect to lead in this picture.

Although he declined to say definitively whether he believes Harris should lead the Democratic Party, at least one Democrat, Rep. Glenn Ivey, D-Md., said he would not rule out Harris.
“I think there’s still a lot of support for him. And he still seemed pretty sharp on those issues. So we’ll see how it goes. But there’s going to be a lot of people who agree with that,” Ivey said.
