New Trump Rally Gets Bombarded by CNN Fact-Check: ‘Whole Lot of Wrongness!’

KATE BOLDUAN: CNN’s Daniel Dale has a fact check on this and more. What did you find, Daniel?
DANIEL DALE: I just noticed that there are so many inaccuracies in these few sentences. So, first of all, as John said, inflation is not being stopped as the president claims. The last inflation rate we have for September is 3.0 percent.
The president said he inherited the worst inflation ever. In the month he took office, the inflation rate was 3.0 percent. It is true that inflation reached a 40-year high of 9.1 percent in June 2022, but President Trump habitually fails to mention that this rate later fell sharply again to the 3.0 percent rate he inherited.
Now prices have clearly fallen across the board, he said. When there is 3 percent inflation, prices do not decrease. It is true that there are some specific items that drop. He often talked about eggs, but we still have a 3 percent increase in total. We have a 2.7 percent increase in market prices.
He often talks about some of the creative times he uses during this conversation and I’ll be paying attention. He often said that prices were falling. We are bringing prices down. So I think it’s harder by design to check the veracity of such claims. However, at the end of his speech, he said that prices had dropped during his grand finale. So far they are not far off.
BOLDUAN: Trying to lower prices is a good thing. If it continues this way, it will be an open and honest statement. But as you stated, it is not like that.
One – came out of incentive, because Kevin Liptak As one would expect from President Trump, many topics were touched upon in this speech. What caught your eye?
DALE: This was the usual list of oft-debunked claims that the President refuses to stop using. For example, it claimed to have secured $18 trillion in investments in the United States this year alone. This figure is not even close to reality. That’s nearly twice the number of uses of the White House website. Even the White House website number is wildly inflated.
He again claimed to have ended eight wars, even though the list he read included two cases of no war between Egypt and Ethiopia during Trump’s presidency. This is a diplomatic dispute and it is not even clear what he is talking about between Serbia and Kosovo. It also includes a conflict between Thailand and Cambodia that it acknowledged reignited this week. So, it’s clearly not over permanently.
He also repeated one of his most frequent claims; claimed that the entire prison population in both Congo and Venezuela had been evacuated to the United States; there is no evidence of this.
BOLDUAN: Daniel Dale got up early and verified for us, thank you very much.
