Donald Trump just tried to boss King Charles but it’s Britain 1 USA 0 | Royal | News

Sometimes Donald Trump needs to get his act together; because his last ‘alpha male’ power play against King Charles was a dismal disaster. If the 79-year-old US President were a gorilla, he would insist on being the biggest and loudest silverback in the union. You can bet young Trump was a bully on the playground.
Over the years and throughout his two stints in the Oval Office, Trump has used the pathetically obvious ‘power handshake’ on a number of White House guests. For those who have yet to see it in action, the ‘power handshake’ is characterized by an exaggerated style designed to assert male dominance with a firm, sustained grip (a sharp tug that throws one off balance) and a final tap or “handshake”.
Viewers watch as the unlucky recipient, who is at first tricked into thinking Trump is greeting them as a friend, then rushes for his life, giving them a big tug (no pun intended) and they wobble unsteadily and nearly fall.
This has had a huge impact on a number of good statesmen, or “gullible suckers” as Trump is likely to call them.
When the late, great Shinzo Abe met Trump in the Oval Office in 2017, he had a grueling 19-second handshake, and when it was over, the then-Japanese Prime Minister was visibly relieved.
There was almost an ‘uncordiale’ situation in Paris that same year when Trump gripped the French leader’s hands so tightly that Emmanuel Macron’s knuckles turned white.
Clever former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau did his homework and neutralized the pull (both Trump’s tactic) by cleverly using a “deltoid brace” to lock his own shoulder and prevent pulling forward.
We can now proudly add our own great King Charles to the honorary board for his shameless display of power.
This week, just 48 hours after Trump and First Lady Melania escaped unharmed from a shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived in the United States on a state visit to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence.
The visit takes place in an environment of tense relations between Britain and America due to the Middle East conflict.
But the crafty Charles won widespread acclaim for how he received Trump’s famous embrace.
Footage circulating on X, formerly known as Twitter, shows the President and First Lady welcoming Charles and Camilla to the White House.
But when Trump extended his hand to the King to begin the male power dance, the King refused to allow the President to pull him forward and carefully withdrew his own hand.
One social media user said: “So proud of King Charles. You can clearly see the tug of war in the handshake, the King also stepped back more than once.”
Another said: “The royal family have had too much practice shaking hands for the Orange Lunatic to try it with them.”
Trump was clearly so angry that he lost the power play and instead placed his hand on the King’s arm as he made his way towards the White House, contrary to unofficial but respectful Royal protocols.
This is England 1 – USA 0. On days like these I feel very proud to be an English Royalist.
