As the state prepares to celebrate Diwali on October 20, the Telangana Fire Department has issued a detailed public safety advisory urging residents to be careful and follow precautions while handling firecrackers, diyas and decorative lights.

The advisory recommends buying crackers only from licensed dealers, bursting them in open areas away from buildings and vehicles, and keeping buckets of water, sand or a fire extinguisher nearby. Adult supervision and the use of cotton or fire-resistant clothing for children are also emphasized. Citizens were encouraged to opt for eco-friendly diyas and low-noise crackers to reduce pollution and distress to pets and the elderly.

People have been warned against burning crackers, wearing synthetic clothing or trying to re-light fake crackers near gas cylinders or electrical installations. The ministry also advised against storing fireworks indoors and leaving diyas or candles unattended.
