Police injured as Molotov’s thrown at PM’s office in Albania | World | News

The protest in front of the prime minister’s office in Albania turned violent when protesters began throwing Molotov cocktails and fireworks at the prime minister’s office building. The demonstration, organized by the Democratic Party, was called in response to corruption allegations against deputy prime minister Belinda Balluku.

Balluku’s recent arrest by Albania’s Special Prosecutor’s Office Against Corrupt Structures (SPAK) sparked widespread protests. Many of the demonstrators were demanding the resignation of both Prime Minister Edi Rama and his deputy.

The anti-corruption group sought to lift his parliamentary immunity so he could be arrested, but that decision will be postponed until January 28.

Police quickly responded to the attack by firing tear gas and water cannon into the crowd, and the crowd soon left the area and marched towards the Parliament building in Tirana.

The group emphasized that they will continue to organize protests against the government until Balluku is removed from office.

While several police officers are thought to have been injured in the clash, local reports suggest three protesters were arrested at the scene.
