In a press release, the NHAI said that the restoration work will be taken in the fully washed Kullu-Manali section and in various places, including five places damaged in heavy rain and floods. Temporary Repair
The statement said that funds were approved to start restoration work to the NHAI Regional Office in Shimla. The maintenance contractor on the site was mobilized by NHAI and the temporary restoration of the highway section continues on the “war ground”.
NHAI will also provide financial support for the repair of an alternative way to the Ministry of Public Works of Himachal Pradesh. Now only light vehicles can use this stretch.
The NHA also explores various options for the permanent restoration of various parts of NH 21, including the construction of tunnels, high structures and slope stabilization. He sought a detailed project report on this subject.
NH 21 joins another key to Leh, and these roads together provide a direct connection between Chandigarh, cahaul-spite and Leh, facilitating access and economic activity throughout the year, fulfilling the purpose of developing tourism and infrastructure development in the Indian border regions.
The four-lane work of the Kiretpur-Manali highway started in 2013 and was officially opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 11 March 2024. The four -lane stretch, some of which is still under construction, is being developed with approximately 3,400 CRORE. When completed, the road will shorten the distance between Kiretpur and Manali from 232 km to 195 km and reduce travel time for three hours.
