How Scott Mills stands to lose a fortune after leaving London for a £1.5million country home as DJ is sacked from his ‘£355,000 plus’ job over ‘historic male relationship’

The ‘financial security’ Scott Mills once boasted is now at risk after the BBC Radio 2 DJ was suddenly sacked and stripped of his sizeable salary on Monday morning.
Mills, 53, was fired by the company just six days after disappearing from radio; sources claim her dismissal was related to a ‘historic male relationship’ with a former colleague.
The decision means he will leave the BBC payroll; Mills is understood to be one of Radio 2’s highest earners, with a whopping salary of between £355,000 and £359,999 a year.
Mills’ BBC fame had enabled him to amass a £1.5 million fortune in the Hertfordshire suburb after spending years living a bachelor lifestyle in London’s lively Kentish Town.
His former home in the Camden area was previously featured in a 2019 episode of ITV show Through The Keyhole; During this program, host Keith Lemon was filmed going through the DJ’s wardrobe.
She moved to London’s outer suburbs with husband Sam Vaughan in 2022, just five months after ending a 23-year relationship with BBC Radio 1 and taking over Steve Wright’s legendary afternoon show on Radio 2.

Various subsequent social media posts show the presenter is enjoying a quieter lifestyle while making the most of his new home’s sprawling backyard, double garage and rural surroundings.
But as news of the firing spread on Monday morning, there was no movement outside the property she shares with her husband, Vaughan, and their pet poodle, Teddy.
The DJ, who was the popular face of the BBC before his sacking, took over the featured breakfast show from Zoe Ball in 2025, three years after joining the Radio 2 team following more than 20 years at Radio 1.
He was thought to have received a small increase in pay when he was appointed, but extensive cuts at the BBC meant he still earned significantly less than Ball, whose Radio 2 earnings are understood to be around £950,000 per year.
The DJ later defended his salary and said he had been ‘playing the long game’ his entire life to get to this point.
‘I’ve been doing this since I was 16 and I’ll tell you how much money I got paid then; £20 per show. “And it was a five-hour show, from 1pm at midnight to 6am in the morning,” he said.
‘Obviously there is always curiosity about salaries because they are published every year. But I don’t think you can say I haven’t played a long game.
To talk Telegram Shortly after his appointment, Mills declared that his comfortable financial situation had given him the strength to say ‘no’ after years of sleep deprivation due to various work commitments.
He said: ‘In my twenties, thirties or even forties, if I was offered a job, I would take it, sometimes risking my health. I was working so hard because my mindset was that you never know when it’s going to end.
‘My schedule for playing for student unions during a freshman week was: Monday: Aberdeen, Tuesday: Glasgow, Wednesday: Edinburgh.
‘I’d do the show in London, fly to Scotland, do the show around midnight, sleep here for four hours, fly back, do the show in London, repeat.’
He added: ‘I’ve taken every opportunity for 20 years and I don’t actually want to do it anymore. ‘I liked it but life is different now.’
Mills also claimed she had finally ‘made it’ after being promoted to the coveted breakfast venue last January.
He said: ‘For the first time I truly believe in myself. ‘It’s like, ‘You’ve got to look at the facts. They put you on the breakfast show, you must be doing something right.’

Mills has since shared numerous social media posts of the property with her Instagram followers.
He was taken off the air last week while bosses investigated the claim, before announcing his dismissal on Monday, just six days after he disappeared from Radio 2.
The BBC refused to comment on Mills’ personal behavior but the Daily Mirror reported that Mills’ shock exit was “historical male relationship more than ten years ago’.
The presenter was last on air on Tuesday and was replaced by experienced DJ Gary Davies from Wednesday.
In a statement today, the BBC said: ‘Whilst we do not comment on individual matters, we can confirm that Scott Mills is no longer contracted to the BBC.’
It was alleged that he was informed of his dismissal over the weekend.
Mills, who is paid between £355,000 and £359,999 a year from the BBC, will take over the Radio 2 breakfast show from Zoe Ball in 2025.
She married her long-term partner Sam Vaughan in a celebrity wedding in Barcelona in 2024; They won the World Celebrity Race together this year. Scott previously had a three-year relationship with marketing manager Brad Harris, which ended in 2016.

Mills’ new home features a sizable backyard, as noted in a recent social media post.
His former home in Kentish Town was previously featured in a 2019 episode of Through The Keyhole; Meanwhile, host Keith Lemon was filmed going through the DJ’s wardrobe.
A senior BBC broadcaster said the company was in “complete shock” after Mills was sacked. An email from BBC music director Lorna Clarke on Monday morning revealed there were “audible gasps” from staff.
BBC UK Correspondent Sima Kotecha said: ‘This is huge news. There was a gasp in the newsroom when people realized he had been fired.
‘We don’t know why he was sacked, but we know it would certainly be unwelcome news. The fact that the bosses have to do this means something potentially huge has to happen here that will see one of their big names leave.
‘As I said, this is a very big name at the BBC. We know what happened to Huw Edwards and how he left the organization because of his actions.
‘We are now asking questions about another megastar earning between £355-359,000 a year at the BBC… this will be unwelcome news.’
