Huge boost for famous UK seaside town as new 36-metre tourist attraction opens | UK | News

Mayors hope the new 36-metre observation wheel will attract more tourists to this beautiful seaside town. Teignmouth’s new attraction will offer visitors miles of stunning panoramic views across the town and surrounding coastline, according to the local council.
Located in The Den park overlooking the seashore, the wheel welcomed its first visitors on Saturday. It is planned to remain open for four weeks in support of the Devon town described as a “jewel”. Councilor John Nutley, Teignbridge District Council’s executive member for leisure and recreation, said: “We are delighted to be able to host an observation wheel in Teignmouth.
“We know how much people enjoy visiting the area and we hope that having an attraction like this will enhance their experience and encourage more people to visit our beautiful seaside town.”
The wheel was transported to the site in small pieces last week.
The council said it had attracted significant local interest and “excitement among residents and visitors alike”.
The attraction includes multiple covered gondolas and seating areas.
It was hailed by the council as “a unique new way to experience the town”.
Teignmouth has been welcoming holidaymakers since Victorian times.
Its beaches have a unique color due to sediments from the surrounding red sandstone cliffs.
The town sits on the edge of the River Teign estuary and the south Devon coast and is surrounded by countryside including Dartmoor National Park.
It’s also easy to get to from London as it’s on the main South West train line.
Teignmouth is also home to Victoria Pier, swimming pool and crazy golf course.
