Huge haul of weight-loss drugs seized on Northampton country estate | UK news

A country estate near Northampton has become the center of the largest ever seizure of unlicensed weight loss drugs in the UK.
Two 29-year-old men were arrested during a raid in which the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) seized nearly 12,000 doses of unlicensed weight loss drugs.
Law enforcement uncovered a large-scale facility used for the production, assembly and distribution of unlicensed products, including retatrutide, an unlicensed weight loss drug, as well as tirzepatide and other peptide-based drugs sold under the brand name Mounjaro.
Andy Morling, head of the MHRA’s corrections unit, said the operation showed the agency’s “unwavering determination to ensure there is no hiding place for those who cynically risk the public’s health for profit”.
He said: “Drugs regulations are not voluntary; they are there to protect people. That is why we continue to target traffickers who seek to circumvent these protections, dismantling the infrastructure that supports them and creating a hostile environment for their exploitative and harmful trade. As well as disrupting an organized crime group, I am confident that dismantling this illegal production facility will prevent serious public harm.”
A press release said the property was raided on May 28 with the support of Northamptonshire police. Investigators believe the country property was used as a large-scale site for the production, assembly and distribution of weight loss drugs. Officers said they seized a significant amount of packaging material as well as what are believed to be pharmaceutical substances used in the illegal production of drugs.
In November last year the MHRA warned that organized crime gangs had begun producing their own branded weight loss drugs designed to resemble legal drugs; This was a situation that authorities described as a significant threat.
The new production model “gives customers a false sense of security, thinking they are purchasing an original product,” the agency said.
The first raid on an illegal weight loss drug factory took place in Northampton in October 2025. During this operation, the MHRA seized tens of thousands of empty slimming pens ready to be filled, raw chemicals and more than 2,000 unlicensed retatrutide and tirzepatide pens destined for shipment to customers. There were no arrests.
