Hugo Ekitike: Liverpool striker’s sending-off was ‘stupid, not smart’, says Arne Slot

On a night when Liverpool’s records celebrated the scorers of Alexander Isak, a moment of madness was costly in the other form.
Hugo Ekitike won the fourth round of the Carabao Cup in a 2-1 win against Southampton on Tuesday.
However, the 85th minute goal was caught in the striker Ekitike, lifted his shirt and held Liverpool fans in the celebration.
He probably knew he would be reserved for that, and he was happy to be a price worth paying, but the apparently forgotten was already a yellow card.
The reference means that it will be suspended for the Premier League match in Crystal Palace on Saturday – it is not ideal when the player, where he is in a battle for a starting point for a starting point, is not ideal.
Ekitike went to social media to apologize on Tuesday night: “I was very excited to help the team to win another victory in our home for my first Carabao Cup match.
“The emotion was better. I apologize to the whole red family. Thanks to the fans who always supported us and my teammates for this victory!”
However, speaking immediately after the match, the manager Arne Nest was stunned by the incident.
“Not [stupid] Because it was his second [yellow] – Even if you don’t have a yellow card yet, he said.
“Maybe a little old -fashioned, but I scored a few goals – not at his level, but I did – and if I cross the three players in the upper corner, maybe ‘this is about me’.
“But if I score a goal like he did tonight, he returns to Chiesa and said, ‘This is Federico about you – great help, wonderful run and I didn’t have to do much’. Maybe it’s my old school.
“He was stupid, he wasn’t smart in every sense. What was good is that his teammates helped him win in the line, but now he’s being suspended for Saturday, and it’s far from being ideal.”
