The Division Bench of the Allahabad High Court set aside the controversial order passed by the single-Judge Bench mandating a Noida college student to stand at the campus gate for 30 days carrying a placard saying “I will never misbehave with any girl”.
The Division Bench of Chief Justice Arun Bhansali and Justice Kshitij Shailendra set aside the order, terming the petition filed by the student as “unfair” and “humiliating” and saying it could “leave a permanent scar” on his character.
The student was suspended by Noida International University in March 2023 following allegations that he misbehaved with female students at another institution.
The student challenged the suspension in the Supreme Court and on October 29, 2025, a single-Judge Bench of Justice Saurabh Shyam Shamshery set aside the suspension order but imposed a set of conditions for the student’s reinstatement.
These included an order requiring the student to stand at the university gate from 8:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. for 30 consecutive days, starting November 3, 2025, and carry a placard that read, “I will never misbehave with any girl.”
In case of non-compliance, the university was instructed to suspend the student again.
The student’s attorney argued before the department bench that the sentence was “extremely humiliating” and would have a “lasting, damaging impact” on the student’s future.
In its order dated February 4, the Division Bench said: “We are of the view that the nature of the direction is not justified in any circumstances. Such direction is not only humiliating but also leaves a permanent scar on the character of the appellant and is not necessary in the circumstances of the case.”
