Humiliation for Andrew as he’s publicly shamed again in key vote | Royal | News

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor faces another public defeat as councilors in Scotland vote to replace a stone plaque commemorating the former prince’s 2002 visit to Alloa in Clackmannanshire. Council leader Ellen Forson successfully moved a motion to remove it, which councilors supported. The stone is located on the route to Alloa Tower, near the council’s Kilncraigs headquarters.

Councilors instead approved a plan to erect a memorial stone in memory of Sir George Reid, the former Speaker of the Scottish Parliament, who died in August last year, the BBC reported. Forson said he had received many messages from local residents expressing concern about the plaque commemorating the former prince.

He said: “For me it is a simple matter of who we choose to recognize in our shared civic spaces and why.

“I believe it is appropriate to remove existing references to the former Prince Andrew.”

The motion emphasized that public dignity should “ensure the public’s trust and reflect the values and integrity expected by our communities.”

Council staff will now begin developing the design and inscription of the new memorial stone.

Forson added that Sir George’s contributions remain influential and continue to resonate in Clackmannanshire and beyond.

“Adding a plaque in memory of George Reid is a recognition of his contribution, but we also ensure that as we move forward, those we choose to commemorate are people who mattered to Clackmannanshire.”
