Avon and Somerset PoliceMore than 600 works of “significant cultural value” were stolen from Bristol Museum’s archives in a “high value” raid, police said.
Avon and Somerset Police said four men entered a building in the Cumberland Basin area of the city in the early morning hours of September 25.
Items from the museum’s British Empire and Commonwealth collection were stolen and detectives are now trying to trace four men captured at the site via CCTV.
Det Con Dan Burgan said: “The theft of many items of significant cultural value is a significant loss for the city.” he said.
Avon and Somerset Police“These items, many of which are donations, form part of a collection that sheds light on a multi-layered part of British history and we hope the public can help us bring those responsible to justice,” he added.
“Our investigations so far have included significant CCTV investigations as well as forensic investigations and victim liaison.”
Police would like to speak to anyone who recognizes the men captured on CCTV or who may have seen stolen items being sold online.
