Hunt for gunmen after 12 killed in South Africa attack

At least 12 people were killed and 9 others were injured when gunmen opened fire on an informal settlement in Cleveland, east of Johannesburg.

Police said they launched a manhunt for more than 10 suspects following the attack in the Jumpers informal settlement on Tuesday night.

The reason for the attack is unknown.

Police said the suspects arrived in a white Toyota Quantum, entered the community from two access points and opened fire at multiple locations, then fled in the same vehicle.

South Africa has one of the highest murder rates in the world, with an average of 60 murders a day.
