Hyderabad: Contests, Picnics, Fun 'N' Frolic Mark Children's Day

Hyderabad: Hyderabad woke up thinking about the election count, but children in the city stepped into a colder-than-usual morning with a different kind of excitement on Friday because Children’s Day comes only once a year. Casual outfits, gifts, competitions, picnics, events, dances, songs and lots of chocolate were the most sought-after things of the day, along with tributes to the first Prime Minister Chacha Nehru.
The most promising scene came from Moosapet, where 50 children from single-parent families received fee support under the program organized by Devarsh Foundation. Senior IAS officer Jayesh Ranjan and badminton player Parupalli Kashyap stayed with the students throughout the event held at Panchasheel School. Each child was given Rs 10,000 towards school fees and the foundation donated Rs 5 lakh towards it. Students also went home with bags, school kits, toys and treats.
Dilleeshwari, the founder of the foundation, stated that support for children will continue and that the team is ready to help families whenever they need it. Jayesh Ranjan said they would work on “more effective improvement programs for Moosapet” and Parupalli Kashyap told the students that she would always be there for them.
Children in city schools were greeted with cheers from their teachers. Jubilee Hills Public School turned its assembly into a small celebration with teachers singing, dancing and talking to students. Director M. Varalakshmi reminded them that “each is good in their own way” and encouraged them to continue learning and growing. Principal P Kanchana Valli said that children will take the future forward and spoke to them before the start of the programmes.
Schools in Hyderabad organized small cultural programs and group events. Others sent groups of students to nearby orphanages, where they spent time with young children and shared snacks and gifts. An art event in Madhapur provided space for older children to sit, paint and spend time with friends. An online drawing competition ran throughout the day, allowing students to participate from home.
