‘I don’t like to fight, but if I have to…’: Shark Tank’s Anupam Mittal says Big Tech ‘do more evil’

In a post, Mittal said the court had ruled last week against domain invaders misusing the Shaadi name.
“Not imitators. Not competitors. Honest lookalikes designed to confuse users and siphon trust,” he wrote.
“I don’t like to fight, but I will do anything if I have to,” Mittal said, adding that the verdict recognized Shaadi.com as a “well-known trademark” under Indian law and awarded costs of Rs 25 lakh along with interest.
Targeting space invaders, Mittal said that brands are not built only on logos. “They are built on decades of spending, consistency, customer belief and restraint. But squatters arrive late, copy the recall and get a free ride,” he wrote.
Mittal also criticized Big Tech companies for normalizing such practices. “Globally, Big Tech has monetized brand keywords and disintermediated companies that create demand in the first place. They are doing more evil,” he said.
Stating that the decision is a landmark, Mittal said that the decision goes beyond a single company. “This decision is important. It’s a lot. It shows that Indian courts are finally realizing that intellectual property is not a technical issue, it is the economic engine of brand trust,” he said, describing it as a big win for Indian brands and legal professionals “playing the long game”.
