India to host 89th general meeting of International Electrotechnical Commission

New Delhi [India]September 14 (Memorial): Indian Standards Office (BIS) announced that India will host the 89th General Meeting of the International Electroteknik Commission (IEC) in Bharat Mandapam between 15-19 September 2025.

The event will bring together more than 2,000 experts from more than 100 countries, which will be deliberate in setting an international electrotechnical standards that will encourage a sustainable, completely electrical and connected world.

This is hosting the prestigious IEC General Meeting after 1960, 1997 and 2013 for the fourth time.

The opening ceremony will be opened by the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Association Pralhad Joshi and the new and renewable Minister of Energy, while the Minister of Trade and Industry will open the IEC GM exhibition in Bharat Mandapam.

The exhibition will be the largest in the electrotechnical segment in India, which exhibits innovations in electric mobility, smart lighting, electronics and IT production and will provide a global network platform for Indian initiatives.

India will also serve as a global standardization secretary in the field of low -voltage direct current (LVDC), a critical field for clean and polluted energy solutions.

IEC Vice President Vimal Mahandru added that the IEC membership includes approximately 170 countries representing 99% of the world’s population and affects approximately 20% of global trade, and India’s leadership in LVDC standardization will strengthen its efforts to improve clean technology standards.

BIS General Manager Pramod Kumar Tiwari emphasized his efforts to integrate the student departments and young professionals of the Bureau into the academy through the structured six -month internship program, which exposed to industries and standard development.

In accordance with the IEC Young Professionals program, 93 young professionals from around the world will participate in workshops, training camps and industry visits to prepare new generation technology leaders.

At the general meeting, more than 150 Technical and Management Committee Meeting to shape new generation standards, a series of workshops focusing on basic developing areas: a sustainable world (September 15), artificial intelligence: shaping the future with innovation (September 16), E-Mobility (17 September) will form the future of the society (September 17).

The IEC GM exhibition organized by BIS in Bharat Mandapam will include 75 participants, including leading industries, associations and start-ups, and will show how international standards are guiding product development and innovation.

The exhibition will be open to the public between 16-19 September 2025, 14:00 – 18:00 with a free entry from the previous registration at https://gm2025.iec.ch/.

Visitors can access the venue through the 10th door and 4. More than 2,000 students from schools and colleges are expected to visit the exhibition.

Visitors to BIS Pavilion, which reflects the theme of “encouraging a sustainable world”, will be invited to a digital sustainability hostage. For each hostage, BIS will plant a sapling in its offices in India and strengthen its commitment to environmental protection and sustainability.
