Live in your turret era! Follow in Alan Carr’s footsteps and buy your own Scottish castle for £600,000

An eight-bedroom Scottish castle is on the market for a cheap £600,000 and it comes with a Traitors-style turret.
The 136-year-old property in Kirkcaldy, south of Edinburgh, combines modern fittings with historic features.
Often referred to as castles, Baronial Villas feature impressive marble fireplaces and decorative ceilings.
There is a turret and a hidden turret at the top of a tower on the property.
It’s on the market for £100,000 less than its estimated value.
The listing comes after Celebrity Traitors winner Alan Carr recently purchased Ayton Castle in Scotland for £3.25 million.
The purchase means the 49-year-old comedian can add the title of baron to his name.

It looks like Alan Carr wants to add another prestigious title to his repertoire after becoming the Notorious Traitors champion: barony.
Kirkcaldy castle is located near the town’s railway station, with an easy route to Edinburgh.
On the ground floor there is a large hall and a separate living room, each with a fireplace.
There is also a modern dining room and kitchen, as well as a reception hall, which was recently used as a reception by the wellness centre.
Two of the bedrooms are on the ground floor, while the other six are on the first floor, next to the guest room.
The property has three bathrooms, two upstairs and one on the ground floor.
It was most recently used as a Thai Chi wellness center and spa.
The property is being sold by estate agents Slater Hogg and Howison.
The advert reads: ‘We are delighted to offer this stunning B-listed Scottish Baronial Villa to the market.
Built in the 1890s with its distinctive conical-roofed bartibar, the property is located in a central and sought-after area of Kirkcaldy.
‘And it’s ideally located for a range of amenities, including Kirkcaldy mainline railway station with regular services including Edinburgh.
‘Currently operated as a wellness centre, the property offers many original period features such as marble fireplaces, intricate cornices and decorative ceilings.
‘Well proportioned and flexible accommodation makes this an exciting opportunity to create a wonderful family home.’

He added: ‘The accommodation is very spacious and includes a magnificent reception hall and upper landing, lounge and drawing rooms with bay windows.
‘And beautiful fireplaces, modern fitted kitchen, dining and living rooms, approximately eight bedrooms, three bathrooms, studies, cloakrooms and various utility rooms.
‘Externally, there is off-street parking and mature south-facing gardens.
‘This is £100,000 below the home report value.’
The listing means potential buyers can follow in the footsteps of the much-loved comedian.
After spending time at the iconic Ardross Castle while filming Celebrity Traitors last year, Alan Carr decided to spend time at his own baroque abode in Scotland.
He reportedly now owns the rights to the title of Barony of Ayton after purchasing Ayton Castle.
His newly expanded property has 16 bedrooms, 160 acres of gardens and even his own miniature railway.
Alan has big plans for the majestic property, having signed a seven-figure deal with Disney+ to produce a series documenting the castle’s transformation into a luxury hotel and spa.
Called Castle Man, the series will take on a similar plot to the BBC’s hit home renovation series with Amanda Holden and will reportedly be produced by Expectation, the same company responsible for Clarkson’s Farm.
Alan said of the purchase: ‘Some men buy a Lamborghini or get a ponytail when they have a mid-life crisis, but me – I want my own castle.
‘I have always dreamed big since my childhood in Northampton and have always been fascinated by the history and romance of a stately home.
‘When I’m 50, I feel like it’s time, all I want is a turret that I can call my own; taking me over that suspension bridge.’
