I Keep Asking Rohit About How To Read Situations : Yashasvi Jaiswal

India’s road to the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup started on a positive note with a dominant 3-0 ODI series win in Afghanistan. Speaking on JioStar’s ‘Cricket Live’, Indian batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal shared his views on his changing role across formats and the long-term vision of the team, while JioStar pundit Sunil Gavaskar applauded Prasidh Krishna for making the most of his opportunity with the new ball.
Speaking to JioStar’s ‘Cricket Live’, Yashasvi Jaiswal talked about adapting to different formats:
“I don’t think too much about which format I play in. My focus is always on what the team needs from me and how I can prepare for that. Be it Test cricket, T20s or ODIs, I make sure I adapt my game accordingly. Preparation is very important for me, understanding the conditions, the opposition and my role in the side. Communication with the support staff and Gautam Gambhir sir was very clear. They helped me understand my game better. I really enjoy the process. Everyone I work hard and that creates a good environment. My mentality is simple; when “If I get the opportunity, I want to go out on the field and do my best for the team.”
On his conversations with Rohit Sharma:
“White-ball cricket requires a different mindset. And the best way to improvise that aspect is to talk to someone like Rohit Bhai. I have had a lot of conversations with him throughout this series and we had great conversations even before the third ODI. I ask him questions about how to read situations, how to play with different bowlers and how to deal with pressure in the middle. He always gives me great answers. His advice helps me a lot during my batting. I know what to expect. I am really enjoying this learning process.”
He explains how watching his teammates’ success motivates him:
“I’ve really enjoyed watching all my teammates succeed. I learn a lot just by observing them; how they prepare, how they deal with pressure and how they perform in different situations. Even from the outside it’s great to see them in such good shape. It gives me a lot of motivation. When I get the opportunity I go out and do my best. The atmosphere in the locker room is really positive. Everyone supports each other and we really enjoy each other’s success. I think that’s the best thing about this team. That kind of culture makes you want to work harder and get better, that’s part of it.” “_ *On the team’s preparations for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup:
“The preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup have already started. Everyone in the team knows their role and what they need to work on. Our job as players is to focus on our game and put our skills in the midfield. We know the World Cup is the bigger picture but we cannot get ahead of ourselves. We need to stay in the moment and take it one game at a time. For me personally, whenever a series or a big tournament comes up, I try to keep it simple. I just focus on the next match. Of course, people think about the ODI World Cup and there is a lot of talk about it. But we’ll cross that bridge when we get there. For now, I’m just enjoying the moment and taking it one match at a time.”
Speaking on JioHotstar’s ‘Cricket Live’, JioStar expert Sunil Gavaskar praised Prasidh Krishna’s magic with the new ball:
“That’s the beauty of Indian cricket, there are always substitutes ready and I think Prasidh Krishna could be at a crossroads in his career. He was in and out of the side and was wicketless in the first ODI and didn’t play in the second game either. In the third ODI he bowled longer and worked the ball. He took the new ball, which is rare for him. In this game, he used it well with the new ball in his possession. That’s what you have to do as a fast bowler. Fast bowlers like to disturb the bats, bounce them and weave them. Earlier he was bowling too short and got a penalty.” But now he throws the ball, moves and takes wickets.
