Two stabbed, arrest made after stabbing attack in city’s north.
London: Two people were stabbed and one suspect was detained in a neighborhood where a large Jewish community lives in London.
Political leaders condemned the stabbing, which followed a series of arson attacks on synagogues and other Jewish sites in the city. Prime Minister Keir Starmer said: “Attacks on our Jewish community are attacks on Britain.”
Security organization Shomrim said a suspect “was seen running along Golders Green Road with a knife and trying to stab Jews in the public” on Wednesday morning.
He said the suspect was detained by Shomrim members and then arrested by police, who used a stun gun on the man.
Another organization, the Community Safety Foundation, said a man was arrested after the stabbing attack. There was no immediate confirmation from police.
Starmer said the incident, reported in the House of Commons, was “deeply worrying”.
“There is currently a police investigation and I think we should all do everything we can to support that investigation and be absolutely clear in our determination to tackle these crimes, the likes of which we have seen so many of late,” he said.
The incident follows arson attacks targeting Jewish sites in London in recent weeks, including a synagogue in Golders Green and a charity’s ambulances.
Counterterrorism officials are investigating whether the arson attacks were the work of Iranian proxies.
No one was injured in the arson incidents that took place a few kilometers away from each other. Multiple people, ranging in age from teenagers to those in their 40s, were arrested and charged.
