The famous former football hooligan has revealed that winning £1,000,000 from EuroMillions left him feeling “gutted” after the initial excitement subsided.
Daniel Wright, who was twice jailed for football-related violence, claimed the jackpot drove him “a bit crazy” and he splashed his money as if he were a Richard Branson-like billionaire; Then he realized he had to stop his extravagant spending spree.
Bradford City fan Daniel, a leading figure in the football company known as The Ointment, received the UK Millionaire Maker award in 2022, four years after his second release from prison.
Despite his initial enthusiastic reaction, he said: “You know, there’s something weird about it? Do you really know, after I made that money, after I enjoyed it for a few weeks… because I’ve always made money and I’ve always done well.”
“You know what? I didn’t like the feeling. I used to think to myself: ‘You’re a lucky bitch.’ I used to think about this all the time. That’s weird to say.

“I was thinking in my head: ‘Everyone in life is going to think you’re lucky and didn’t work for it.’ And it was driving me a little crazy. “I actually ruined some of it just because I didn’t like it.”
He made statements on the subject Liam Tuff’s podcastThe host claimed he must be the only one who won a million pounds and felt “absolutely gutted”. But Daniel replied: “I guess everyone was gutted, but no one told you that.”
Despite the difficulties he went through, he announced that he would not return the money and admitted that this unexpected event “changed” him as a person.
Elaborating further, he said: “Obviously, I overdid it at first. I went to Jamaica and bought a villa. For a few weeks I thought I was Richard Branson. I went to Vegas. I always wanted to go to Vegas because I loved gambling.”

“I’ll be honest with you; I made around £60,000 in one weekend.”
Daniel also spent £40,000 on a Rolex watch, but soon realized he should have been more cautious with his wealth.
He has now revealed that he has purchased property, including his residence in Yarm, Durham, and is pouring the funds into a property development venture.
Daniel also announced his retirement from football hooliganism ahead of his EuroMillions victory, but admitted one aspect he missed about terrace culture was the brotherhood between kindred spirits.
He described the violence as “like a drug”, but concluded after his second prison sentence that he “couldn’t do this anymore”.
Daniel explained that he now experiences similar endorphins when he receives positive feedback on his literary work, establishing himself as a published author.
His first novel, Northern Monkey, was loosely inspired by his association with the firm The Ointment. However, he noted that he focused predominantly on working-class Bradford, where drug dealing was also featured in his fictional narratives.
