‘I would love something sweet’: As Kate and William celebrate 15 years of marriage, a lip reader claims Princess can’t resist making some rather flirtatious remarks to her husband in public

We might be more accustomed to seeing their gentle affectionate touches or soft kisses, but according to one lip reader, the Prince and Princess of Wales had some pretty flirty chats during their royal tour of the Caribbean in 2022.

Channel 5’s Royal Family Lip Reading: What Are They Really Saying? Speaking on the programme, Nicola Hickling said the couple turned on the PDA while visiting Jamaica four years ago.

William and Kate were seen smiling as they enjoyed a private chat during the inaugural Commissioning Parade in Kingston for service personnel from across the Caribbean.

And to Nicola, the subject matter seemed particularly X-rated; Catherine asked her husband if he had “entered them,” to which he replied, “I did, yes.”

The future King was later alleged to have said: ‘I think everyone here wants to laugh.’

But it seems the conversation got even more heated when Kate later referred to William’s “smart” outfit – his military fatigues.

“You know how that makes me feel,” he continued, according to the lip reader. ‘I have some desserts, we can eat them when we get home.’

William then reportedly said: ‘I’d like something sweet.’

Royal commentators also stated that they couldn’t get enough of the ‘cheeky’ conversation and stated that ‘they didn’t talk about desserts there’.

“It’s their love language,” said analyst Cristo Foufas, while former royal butler Grant Harrold said: “He gives her a wonderful compliment and tells her how it makes him feel.”

‘It would be very heated if I said that! This is great, the two are in love; Why don’t you say something to your partner?’

And elsewhere, actress Nina Wadia found this flirty exchange a refreshing take on the human side of The Firm.

‘I love flirting among the royal family!’ He explained the program. ‘And we can finally see this; It’s normal and fun.’

While enthusiastic public displays of affection from the couple are still rare, William and Kate have certainly become more flirtatious over the years.

From meeting as students at the University of St Andrews in 2001 to becoming proud parents of their three children, royal fans have been delighted with the Prince and Princess of Wales’ ‘fairytale’ love story.

However, in the early years of their marriage the couple appeared to take after the Queen and Prince Philip, who were always formal in public and were rarely seen holding hands or showing affection.

But fast forward to today and the couple is much more comfortable with public displays of affection (PDA).

Last year, royal fans swooned when the couple celebrated Valentine’s Day publicly for the first time, taking to X and Instagram to share an adorable photo of the couple on the grounds of Sandringham Manor in summer 2024.

Showcasing the couple’s enduring love, the photo was taken against a gorgeous woodland backdrop and was a still from the highly emotional video in which Kate announced she had completed her chemotherapy treatment that September.

Elsewhere, the pair traveled north of the Border for a two-day engagement in January and enjoyed plenty of subtle romantic moments, from gentle touches to loving glances.

On one occasion, William, ever the gentleman, helped his wife onto the ice at the National Curling Academy in Stirling, carefully guiding her and making sure she was safe as they tried their hand at the sport.

Although they are known for their competitive streaks, they have both been photographed smiling profusely at the others’ efforts while taking part.

William started confidently and the Princess offered supportive words, saying: ‘You’re doing very well.’

Elsewhere, Kate took a tartan weaving lesson while her husband dutifully allowed the Princess to take to the stage, holding her custom coat designed by famous Savile Row tailor Chris Kerr in the background.

And while chatting with well-wishers during a stroll, the loved-up couple couldn’t keep their hands off each other; William put his arm around Kate for a photo with a fan.

In October, the stunned couple also delighted royal fans as they beamed at each other during a trip to Northern Ireland.

In a particularly tender scene during the day, Kate was photographed lovingly placing her hand on William’s back before the royal couple climbed into a fire truck and watched trainee firefighters take part in drills.

Then in November, William sent royal fans into swoon when he was caught gently kissing his wife’s hand while attending the Royal Variety Performance in London.

But even earlier that year the pair looked more loved-up than ever when they joined King Charles and Queen Camilla at the VE Day celebrations in London, placing their hands on each other’s backs in a supportive gesture.

Meanwhile, just a month ago the couple were spotted gazing lovingly at each other as they celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary during a very special visit to Scotland’s Isle of Mull.

As a sign of this momentous occasion, Kate and William posted an incredibly romantic photo on their official Kensington Royal social media accounts, showing the couple lovingly embracing each other as they enjoyed a quiet moment at dusk in Tobermory.

When the Prince and Princess held their first joint engagement in over a year in Wales in February 2025, they were spotted walking hand in hand at Cardiff Central station.

In fact, although glimpses of their loving relationship in the years before Kate’s cancer diagnosis were rare, their impact was absolutely tremendous.

From the moment they were first seen embracing in public during a ski trip in 2007, to the celebratory embrace seen during a triumphant sporting moment at the London 2012 Olympic Games, royal fans have been delighted to see the tactile side of William and Kate.

Ten years later, the royal couple shared a particularly tender moment after William won a trophy in the Royal Charity Polo Cup.

At the end of the day, the couple was seen walking with their arms lovingly around each other’s waists.

Elsewhere, in 2023, a moment in which Kate patted her husband on the back while walking on the Bafta red carpet sent royal fans wild.
