IAF training aircraft crashes into pond in Prayagraj; pilot safe

A training aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed into a pond near the KP College ground in George Town district in Prayagraj on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, officials said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Manish Shandilya said: PTI It was stated that the pilot managed to eject safely and there were no reports of any loss of life or damage to civilian property.
He said that the training plane crashed after experiencing a sudden technical problem in its engine.
“A Microlite aircraft of the IAF, while on a routine sortie from Bamrauli AF Station near Prayagraj at 12.15 pm on January 21, suffered a technical fault and crash-landed in a deserted area safely without causing harm to civilian life or property. Both the pilots on board are safe. A Court of Inquiry has been ordered by the IAF to ascertain the reason for this,” the IAF said in a post on X.
Officials added that authorities have cordoned off the area and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
