Who is Dina Powell McCormick? Former Donald Trump advisor leaving Meta board in just eight months

According to reports by Bloomberg and Reuters, Meta Platforms board member Dina Powell McCormick, appointed by founding CEO Mark Zuckerberg, resigned from her position in just eight months.

Citing a regulatory filing with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (US SEC), Bloomberg reported that December 19 was McCormick’s last day on Meta’s board.

A source told the publication that Powell McCormick is considering an advisory role at Meta. They added that he will continue to work with company leadership on “a broad range of issues,” including strategic advice and investments.

The source also said Meta is unlikely to find someone to replace him on the board. According to the Bloomberg report, it was stated that the Meta spokesperson did not respond to questions.

Who is Dina Powell McCormick?

According to Bloomberg, Powell McCormick served as US President Donald Trump’s deputy national security advisor in his first term.

According to the New York Times, in November, Powell McCormick and her husband, Pennsylvania Republican Senator Dave McCormick, attended a ceremony organized by Donald Trump for Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Washington.

He also serves as head of global client services at investment firm BDT & MSD Partners.

According to the Reuters report, Powell McCormick has 16 years of experience in senior leadership positions at Goldman Sachs. He reportedly oversees sustainability and inclusive growth initiatives in addition to leading the company’s impact investing business.

In terms of government involvement, Reuters noted that before Donald Trump, Powell McCormick also served as a senior advisor at the White House and as deputy secretary of state to Condoleezza Rice under President George W Bush.

Meta’s board of directors is expanding

Meta Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg has made several changes to the company’s board of directors over the past few years, including five new appointments in the past 12 months. According to the Bloomberg report, in addition to Powell McCormick, Zuckerberg also added Patrick Collison, who runs the financial technology company Stripe, and Ultimate Fighting Championship CEO Dana White, another Trump ally, to his staff.

According to the Reuters report, Meta aimed to increase the number of its board of directors to 15 members. Currently board members include Marc ‍Andreessen and Tony Xu.
