Ian Huntley’s mum ‘tells friends she hopes he dies’ after killer’s head ‘split in two’ | UK | News

The mother of infamous child killer Ian Huntley said she could barely recognize her son as he fought for his life in hospital after a brutal attack in prison. He also told friends that “part of me hopes he dies.” Huntley, 52, remains in a critical condition after being attacked by another prisoner at HM Frankland Prison in County Durham.
The killer who killed 10-year-olds Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in the sleepy town of Soham in 2002 was hospitalized and reportedly given a 5% chance of survival. Huntley, who is serving two life sentences, is believed to have suffered serious head injuries after being struck with a sharp metal pole during an incident in the prison workshop. Sun.
His mother, Lynda Richards, 71, drove nearly 275 miles to be at his bedside after emergency surgery.
She allegedly told friends that she “just wanted to get out of this” and was fully aware that “the flags would be flying high” if she died, but that she was “still his mother.”
A Durham Constabulary spokesman said on Friday: “There was no change in the 52-year-old man’s condition overnight; he remains in hospital in a serious condition.”
It was learned that Huntley was on life support and receiving assistance from a respirator, and his condition was stated to be serious.
A source told Sun: “Lynda didn’t recognize her son when she saw him in hospital, his injuries were so extensive. She was understandably upset about what had happened but it was a harrowing experience for her. “She had been attacked many times and now feels it might have been better if she didn’t get out of the situation.

“This is an extraordinarily difficult thing for him to accept. Part of him hopes that this time he’ll die. But no matter what, he’s still her son and they’ve remained very close.”
This source also added that Richards spoke to her son two days before she was attacked and said she “couldn’t be at peace until it’s over and it won’t be over until he’s gone.”
“He knew and accepted this a long time ago. He says everyone, including his own family, was traumatized by what his son did.”
The outlet also previously quoted a source as saying Huntley was “left in a horrific condition and in a pool of blood with his head split in half.”
Huntley, a former school caretaker, killed Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman after they left their family’s barbecue to get candy on August 4, 2002, and then dumped their bodies in a ditch 12 miles away in Lakenheath, Suffolk. The girls’ bodies were found after a 13-day search involving hundreds of officers across the country.
Huntley was arrested the same day and subsequently convicted of the murders and sentenced to at least 40 years in prison.
