U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents involved in the fatal shooting of an illegal immigrant in Houston this week were not wearing body cameras, multiple sources familiar with the investigation told Fox News.
This development comes as the shooting continues to attract national attention. The incident is being investigated by the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General, while prosecutors in Houston are conducting a separate investigation into the shooting.
Mexican citizen Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, who authorities said was in the country illegally, was shot and killed after allegedly trying to hit an ICE officer with his vehicle on Tuesday.

Many Democrats have called for an independent investigation into the incident.
“Each and every ICE agent involved in the fatal shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo should be investigated to the full extent of the law,” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries wrote to X. “The video footage of the murder must be released immediately. The American people deserve the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.”
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani also called for “real accountability” in the wake of the attack and reiterated his support for abolishing ICE.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum promised that “legal measures” would be taken following the attack.
When asked if the officers involved were wearing body cameras, the Department of Homeland Security referred Fox News to ICE’s previous statement about the shooting. In this statement, the agency accused Araujo of trying to evade arrest.
ICE previously told Fox News Digital that Araujo “crashed an ICE law enforcement vehicle, refused to comply with multiple verbal commands, and weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run over an ICE law enforcement officer, resulting in our officer firing his weapon in self-defense.”

Araujo was shot and taken to a hospital, where he later died.
“This is an evolving situation and we will update the public as more information becomes available,” the agency added.
In the days following the shooting, a small video of the encounter was made public.

Araujo’s family disputed ICE’s account of the shooting and called on the agency to release all available video evidence.
