U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Chicago this week arrested a Mexican national and former DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) recipient with a violent and lengthy criminal history who entered the United States illegally, authorities said.

ICE described Alan Eduardo Garcia’s arrest as “high risk” due to his “repeated aggression and attempts to evade arrest.”

Garcia’s criminal record includes arrests and convictions for strangulation, domestic battery, disorderly conduct, battery causing bodily injury, aggravated battery against a disabled or pregnant woman, and unlawful use of a firearm.

ICE officers said they likely saved the life of a 31-year-old man arrested as part of Operation Midway Blitz in Chicago by preventing him from jumping from a third-floor balcony during the pursuit.

Although she was a previous DACA recipient, her status was denied in 2019 during President Donald Trump’s first administration.

ICE officers first attempted to arrest Garcia during a traffic stop on October 8, but he allegedly fled at that time, crashing into a government vehicle and fleeing at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.

On Wednesday, officers tried to arrest him again after he left his apartment and got into his car.

ICE said Garcia again crashed into officers’ cars and sped away before fleeing on foot and barricading himself in his apartment.
