Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., suggested in a podcast Sunday that Democrats should act with civility toward former supporters of President Donald Trump who have broken with him on important issues.
Tommy Vietor, co-host of “Pod Save America” played a clip of former Republican lawmaker Marjorie Taylor Greene, who was once a staunch Trump ally but has now become one of Trump’s most outspoken conservative critics, to the point of recommending his removal via the 25th Amendment following his viral threat to end Iranian civilization.
Greene said earlier this month: “The American people have to open their eyes, face the truth, face the truth. And the truth is, look, you, like me and you, may have supported President Trump for 10 years, but this is not the same man. This is not the man we support.”

Vietor cited many other famous political figures, stating that he was “far from the only diehard MAGA supporter” who broke with Trump over the war in Iran and the handling of the Epstein files. He then went on to ask Omar questions about what her reaction was to Greene’s comments and how Democrats in general should respond to such departures from the MAGA movement.
Omar responded to the second part of her question: “I think it’s really important for us as Americans to work together to preserve everything that’s good about our country and to support leaders that we can trust to protect what’s good about our country.”
What’s fascinating about defectors like Greene, Omar suggested, is that “they don’t say, ‘This action is wrong,’ like the others you mentioned, do they? They say, ‘I’m done with you.'”

Vietor agrees with this and states that this is a “values-based” judgment, not like ‘this policy is bad’ but like ‘this guy is bad’.
“It’s true, and I think we should give them credit for the fact that it’s a wake-up call for them to finally see this fraudster, this corrupt, chaotic man,” Omar said. “The fact that they realize he has no principles other than boosting his ego.”
