An illegal immigrant who brutally murdered a Michigan woman has filed a bold lawsuit against Donald Trump over remarks the President made about him on the campaign trail.
Brandon Ortiz-Vite, a 27-year-old Mexican man, is serving a sentence of 39 to 100 years in prison after pleading guilty to murdering his girlfriend in March 2024.
He shot 25-year-old Ruby Garcia multiple times in the head, then pushed her out of the car on U.S. 131 in downtown Grand Rapids.
Days after the terrible massacre, Trump, who made the fight against illegal immigration a cornerstone of his campaign, held a rally in the same city and called Ortiz-Vite “America’s problem.”

Ortiz-Vite filed a lawsuit against Trump and White House communications director Steven Cheung, seeking $75.5 million, a public apology and U.S. citizenship, claiming the ad caused him severe emotional anguish and forced him to take a plea deal.
‘Everything became clear to me when I first met my court-appointed lawyers. They explained how my case had now blown out of proportion and had now become a high profile case!’ he wrote in the court filing.
‘The shock in their eyes and the tears in mine were a reaction to the realization that I was living everyone’s worst nightmare! Public notoriety – a goal! Everything went downhill from here to the United States. ‘I have now been labeled a cold-blooded murderer in the eyes of the people of this nation.’

Days after the murder, Donald Trump, who has made fighting illegal immigration a cornerstone of his campaign, held a rally in Grand Rapids, labeling Ortiz-Vite “America’s problem.”
Ortiz-Vite entered the country illegally as a child and was allowed to remain in the United States under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which expired May 10, 2019.
But the killer remained in the country past DACA’s expiration date and was deported in 2020 after he was arrested for driving under the influence. It is unclear when he re-entered the country.
Ortiz-Vite claimed in his lawsuit that Trump’s focus on his immigration status made him feel pressured to plead guilty.
‘I’ve been placed in a category. It didn’t matter who I was anymore! “The only thing that mattered was my race,” Ortiz-Vite wrote.
‘My case and my immigration status! ‘Once again he belittled me and shattered my dignity and personality.’
He claimed that the attention while behind bars isolated him and made him a target for other inmates.
‘The shame this has brought to my family name is now a reality I have to live with,’ he wrote.
‘I took full responsibility for my actions but it was unfair for them to use my case for political gain on television. Humiliating. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse, it did. ‘I was on stage in front of a nation, public scrutiny at its best!’

Ortiz-Vite is seeking $75.5 million, a public apology and U.S. citizenship, claiming Trump’s publicity caused him severe emotional pain and forced him to take a plea deal.
Ortiz-Vite is demanding $75.5 million in damages for himself and his family, a public apology from Trump, and “naturalization to this beautiful country.”
He is representing himself in the case and filed the lawsuit from his jail cell at Chippewa Correctional Facility.
Former federal prosecutor Matthew Borgula said: Fox News The case is unlikely to succeed.
‘Federal law requires courts to review prisoners’ cases before they are served on anyone. Borgula said this complaint probably won’t survive this screening.
‘Furthermore, the president’s immunity extends to official actions and may exclude campaign statements; But this case fails for more fundamental reasons.
‘Being publicly shamed by a politician is not a constitutional violation. ‘This case must be over before it even begins.’
