Implement Singapore’s Best Practices in one AP District: Naidu

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday suggested implementing Singapore’s administrative best practices in a district of Andhra Pradesh. In this context, he instructed the authorities to prepare a 90-day comprehensive action plan to implement best practices.

Speaking at the Collectors’ Conference at the Secretariat in Amaravati, the Prime Minister said Singapore’s governance systems have earned the trust of its people. He emphasized the need for Andhra Pradesh to replicate similar efficient administrative practices.

Emphasizing Singapore’s “Not I… We” philosophy, Naidu asked the authorities to move away from individual mentality and work collectively for the welfare and development of the society. He also announced that he would consciously replace the word “I” with “We” in his public discourse.

CM argued that learning is a continuous process. He noted that adopting best practices from around the world can yield significant results. Referring to the Gross Domestic Product (GSDP), he observed that decisions taken now will have a long-term impact on the future of the EP.

Highlighting regional disparities, Naidu said although both Parvathipuram and Alluri districts are tribal areas, Alluri district has achieved better GDP growth due to value addition in coffee cultivation. He called for greater focus on innovation, industrial development and expansion of the service sector.

The Prime Minister highlighted that various regions of Andhra Pradesh have rare earth minerals. Establishing units to process them could open new avenues for industrial growth and employment creation.

He informed officials that the government was examining the role of district collectors in boosting GDP growth. He asked them to produce innovative ideas on the subject.

Naidu cited Annamayya district collector as an example of proactive management.

Calling for healthy competition among collectors in developing constituencies, the CM underlined that field level officers have valuable experience. Their knowledge, if used effectively, can accelerate development and improve welfare delivery.

“Earlier, collectors in larger districts had to oversee up to 21 Assembly constituencies. Now each collector oversees only seven constituencies, creating greater opportunities to improve governance, accelerate development and ensure prosperity effectively,” he stressed.

Speaking about tourism-led growth, Naidu said development of beach fronts in Suryalanka, Manginapudi, Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam and Mypadu could create significant livelihood opportunities for coastal communities. He said the upcoming national highways will create economic opportunities through logistics hubs and new townships.
