New Delhi signed the declaration late on Wednesday, shortly before the deadline for ratifying the joint declaration expired. The move comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Israel next week, where he is expected to address the Israeli parliament.
The statement said, “We strongly condemn Israel’s unilateral decisions and measures aimed at expanding its unlawful presence in the West Bank,” adding that such actions are contrary to Israel’s obligations under international law and “must be withdrawn immediately.”
The declaration also firmly opposed any form of annexation, reiterating the rejection of “all measures aimed at changing the demographic structure, character and status of the Palestinian Territories occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem.”
