Meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) 2025 Summit in Tianjin, China. A report published in India Narrative said that the two leaders agreed that “mutual trust, respect and sensitivity” should form the basis of future ties, according to IANS.
Prime Minister Modi and Xi Jinping discussed measures to maintain stability along the disputed borders. The two sides announced that direct flights between India and China will resume soon, and earlier this week a private carrier resumed direct commercial passenger flights to China, connecting Kolkata with Guangzhou with daily non-stop flights.
The report stated that during his meeting with the Chinese President, Prime Minister Modi emphasized that the two countries should work together to stabilize the global economic order. He extended an invitation to Xi to attend the BRICS Summit, which India will host in 2026.
The two leaders reviewed the progress in India-China relations since their last meeting in Russia’s Kazan in 2024.
Moreover, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) press release, Prime Minister Modi underlined the importance of peace and tranquility in the border areas for the continuous development of bilateral relations.
The two leaders noted the need to strengthen people-to-people ties through direct flights and visa facilitation. The breakthrough in bilateral talks was made possible after India and China agreed to patrol along the nearly 3,500-km LAC to end the four-year-old border conflict.
