India on Thursday, January 22, 2026, condemned the incident of trespass and vandalism of its embassy in Croatia by some Khalistani elements and demanded action against the perpetrators.

The incident in the European country occurred days before the India-EU summit in New Delhi.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said it had “strongly” taken up the matter with Croatian authorities in both New Delhi and Zagreb and asked them to hold the perpetrators accountable for their “reprehensible” actions.

The incident was reported to have occurred on Thursday, January 22, 2026.

“We condemn the incident of trespass and vandalism of our Embassy in Zagreb, Croatia by anti-India elements,” MEA said.

In its statement, MEA said that diplomatic buildings are inviolable and must be protected in accordance with the Vienna Convention.

“Accordingly, we have strongly taken up the matter with Croatian authorities in both New Delhi and Zagreb and asked them to hold the perpetrators accountable for their reprehensible and illegal actions,” the statement said.

“Such actions also speak to the character and motives of those behind them, and law enforcement everywhere would do well to take them into account,” the statement said.
