India Elevates Kabul Technical Mission To Embassy Post Talks With Afghan FM | India News

India has signaled renewed commitment to strengthening bilateral ties by officially upgrading its Technical Mission in Kabul to the Indian Embassy in Afghanistan.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) described the move as a clear indication of India’s intention to deepen cooperation with Afghanistan in all areas of common interest.

“In line with the decision announced during the recent visit of the Afghan Foreign Minister to India, the Government reverts the status of India’s Technical Mission in Kabul to that of India’s Embassy in Afghanistan with immediate effect,” the MEA statement said. The statement was included.

The statement also stated that the Embassy will support India’s efforts to support Afghanistan’s comprehensive development, humanitarian assistance and capacity building programs, reflecting the priorities and aspirations of the Afghan society.

On October 10, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held detailed talks with Afghan Foreign Minister Maulavi Amir Khan Muttaqi in New Delhi, covering a wide range of common concerns and important regional developments.

Reaffirming India’s long-standing friendship with the Afghan people, Jaishankar underlined the enduring cultural and historical ties between the two countries. He reiterated India’s unwavering support for Afghanistan’s development goals.

At the meeting, Jaishankar said, “India is fully committed to the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Afghanistan. Closer cooperation between us contributes to regional stability and resilience as well as national development. To enhance this, I am pleased to announce today the elevation of India’s Technical Mission in Kabul to the status of Embassy of India.”
