According to an analysis by Oxfam, India was the country that received the most regressive tax advice from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) between 2022 and 2024.
The analysis, released ahead of the IMF and World Bank’s spring meetings in Washington, found the global institution was applying “double standards” by giving largely progressive advice to rich countries while recommending regressive measures “likely to increase inequality” for others.
