Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Kaynes Semicon’s outsourced semiconductor assembly and testing facility in Sanand on Tuesday (March 31, 2026) and said it strengthens India’s role as a reliable semiconductor supplier in the global market.

He said the opening of the facility strengthens India’s drive towards self-reliance and is an important step in creating a robust semiconductor ecosystem.

Mr Modi said India’s decision to join the Pax Silica initiative was aimed at strengthening the supply of critical minerals.

Terming this development as a moment of pride as an Indian company joins the global semiconductor supply chain, Mr. Modi said this is not just a time for economic competition but also a time to shape the future technology landscape.

The Prime Minister said, “With the start of production on this project, India is further strengthening its role as a reliable semiconductor supplier in the global market. Today, in a sense, a new bridge has emerged between Sanand and Silicon Valley; the factory in Sanand is now supplying Smart Power Modules to a California-based company.”

Mr. Modi said India launches Semiconductor Mission in 2021; This is not just an industrial policy but also a statement of India’s confidence.

“India launched Semiconductor Mission 2 in the last budget to make the country self-reliant in every sector of manufacturing,” he added.
